ESS FAQ

What does MIL-PRF-31013 / MIL-PRF-32432 or ANSI Z87.1 mean on Wiley X, Revision, or ESS eyewear?

Impact standards. Z87.1 is the industrial high-impact rating. MIL-PRF-31013 (spectacles) and MIL-PRF-32432 (goggles) are the US military fragmentation tests, which fire a projectile several times faster than the industrial test. Frames with those markings are what soldiers, police and serious shooters wear.

What is ESS and can I get prescription in ESS goggles?

ESS is Eye Safety Systems, the goggles and glasses issued to much of the US military; the Crossbow is the best-known. Most take a prescription through an insert that clips inside the goggle. The outer shield is Z87+ and the insert can be made to the same rating in polycarbonate.

Which ESS models do you carry?

The Crossbow and Crossblade glasses, the ICE lens set, and a few sunglasses. Some take a prescription through an insert; others are non-prescription shields. Part of the range is discontinued for us.
