Ski & Snowboard Goggles FAQ
How do I choose the right lens tint for ski goggles?
Go by light. Yellow or orange (60 to 90% transmission) for flat light, cloud and night. Rose or amber (30 to 60%) for partly cloudy, the everyday lens. Bronze or brown (15 to 30%) for bluebird days. Dark mirror (5 to 15%) for full sun at altitude. Most goggles now swap lenses so you can carry two.
How do I prevent ski goggles from fogging?
Anti-fog on the night before, left to dry. Never wipe the inside of the lens; it strips the coating. Let it air-dry or dab with a goggle cloth. Keep the vents clear, don't push the goggles up on your forehead between runs, and make sure the helmet doesn't block the top vent.
Can I get prescription in ski goggles?
With an insert that mounts inside the goggle, made for the exact model. Smith, Oakley and Bollé offer their own. The insert stops around -4.00 because of the curve; mountaineering sunglasses go further.
Are photochromic ski goggle lenses worth it?
If you ski through trees, weather and from first lift to last, yes: the lens adjusts itself and you stop swapping. If you only ski sunny days, a fixed dark lens is cheaper.
