Motocross Goggles FAQ
Can I get prescription in motocross goggles?
With an insert behind the main lens, made for the exact goggle model (Oakley O-Frame, 100% Racecraft and so on). We cut it in Trivex; it sits about 15 mm from your eyes and comes out for cleaning.
Are motocross goggles safety rated?
Not Z87+, usually. They're built for roost and rocks, not the workshop, and the rating that applies is ASTM F659 for sport impact, which the major brands meet. If you need industrial protection, buy a Z87+ goggle.
What's the difference between motocross and ski goggles?
Motocross goggles are built for impact, dust and mud: tougher frame, posts for tear-offs, a strap sized for a helmet, and less emphasis on anti-fog because warm fast air keeps them clear. Ski goggles are built for cold and fogging.
What are tear-offs?
Thin clear films stacked on the goggle lens, usually seven deep. When mud covers the top one, you tear it away and see clearly again. Single use. Roll-offs do the same job with a reusable film on a spool.
