EnChroma FAQ
Does EnChroma work for protanopia, deuteranopia, or both?
Both, and their milder forms; that's what the filter is designed for, with up to about 70% improvement in colour discrimination. It does little for blue-yellow deficiency. EnChroma's online test tells you which type you have before you spend the money.
What is EnChroma and how does it work?
A lens with a filter that cuts out the band where the red and green signals overlap, so the two are easier to tell apart. For people with red-green colour deficiency that means more distinct, more vivid colour. How much depends on how strong the deficiency is.
Does EnChroma cure color blindness or let me pass an Ishihara test?
No on both. About four in five wearers notice a real improvement, but the deficiency is still there, the plates are still hard, and you won't see colour the way someone with full colour vision does. We say that up front so nobody is disappointed.
Does the EnChroma filter change my prescription?
No. The filter is in the lens material, not a coating on top, so the power is unaffected. It does cut light by 15 to 20%, which is why the Outdoor lens is for sun and the Indoor lens for rooms and screens.
What's the difference between EnChroma Outdoor and Indoor lenses?
Outdoor is a category 2 to 3 sunglass tint with the strongest filter: bright sun, most colour effect. Indoor is nearly clear with a milder filter for the office and screens. Both come in prescription. Outdoor isn't for night driving.
Are EnChroma glasses safe for driving?
We say no. They can change how traffic and brake lights look. Wear them for everything else, outdoors, at work, on screens, and ask us about driving lenses if that's what you need.
Can I get EnChroma in a wrap-around sport frame?
Not a deep one. The filter behaves properly up to about a 6-base curve; in an 8-base wrap the colour shifts across the lens. For sport, a flat or semi-rimless frame with the Outdoor tint.
What's the return policy if I'm not satisfied with the color effect?
Non-prescription EnChroma carries a 60-day satisfaction guarantee. Prescription lenses are made for you, so instead of a refund we remake them once in a different EnChroma tint. If you're unsure, try a non-prescription pair first.
