Extra Large Prescription Eyeglasses FAQ
Will an oversized frame work with my PD?
Only if your eyes are far enough apart. An extra-large frame (55 to 60 mm lens) wants a PD of about 68 mm or more; below about 62 mm the optical centres end up too far out and the lenses induce prism, which gives you a headache. In that case we'll suggest a narrower frame. Big lenses also get thick on a minus prescription, so high-index is the usual choice.
What counts as extra large?
Eye size 58 and up with temples of 145 to 150 mm, or a total frame width over 145 mm. Fatheadz and XXL Eyewear go to 160 mm and beyond, sizes most opticians don't stock.
Which brands make extra-large eyeglasses?
7eye in 62 and 63 sizes, XXL Eyewear, Fatheadz, Under Armour and Ray-Ban's largest models. Seventy-odd frames from 60 eye upward, many with 150 mm temples.
