Glasses for Dry Eye Relief FAQ
What are dry eye glasses and do they really help?
Glasses with a foam or silicone gasket that seals around the eyes. It stops air moving across the eye, so tears evaporate far more slowly, by roughly 60 to 80% on the studies we've seen. They don't fix the cause; they take the sting out of wind, air conditioning and long screen days, and post-LASIK and Sjögren's patients tell us they're the difference between going out and not. Ziena and 7eye are the two brands we sell most.
What is 7eye and what makes it different from regular sunglasses?
7eye is a small American company that makes vented sunglasses. Air channels around the lens keep them from fogging, and most models take a removable foam eyecup that shuts out wind and dust. We sell more of them to motorcyclists and to people with dry eyes than to anyone else.
Do dry eye glasses help in the car?
That's one of the main reasons people buy them: air-conditioning and heater vents blow straight at your eyes. The gasket blocks the draft. Ziena and 7eye take a full prescription, progressives included, without breaking the seal.
What makes Ziena different from other dry eye glasses?
The eyecup is silicone, snaps on with magnets, and comes off in a second, leaving a frame that looks like ordinary eyeglasses. Most other moisture-chamber frames look like what they are. That's why Ziena is the one people with severe dry eye end up wearing all day.
How does the 7eye Airshield / AirDam gasket system work?
A soft silicone-foam gasket sits between the frame and your face. It stops wind reaching the eye, so tears don't evaporate as fast, and it keeps dust and pollen out. AirDam is the standard version with a cup you can pull off. AirShield seals deeper and fits more like a goggle; that's the one to pick if dry eye is the reason you're here.
Can I get prescription lenses in 7eye frames?
Nearly all of them, single vision, bifocal or progressive. We cut them in Trivex or polycarbonate and use a digitally surfaced design so the wrap doesn't distort the edges. A couple of the fit-over models are non-prescription only; the product page says so.
What lens material do 7eye AirDam frames require?
Polycarbonate or Trivex. The eyecup mechanism is designed around light lenses, and high-index is dense enough to wear it out early. We default to Trivex unless you ask otherwise.
