Can I get my prescription in Costa 580 technology?

Yes, genuine Costa lenses, 580G glass or 580P polycarbonate, in single vision, bifocal or progressive. Glass tops out around -4.00/+2.00 because of the weight; stronger prescriptions go in 580P.

Which Costa frame works best for strong astigmatism or high sphere?

The Fantail or the Reefton. Their thicker fronts hide the lens edge, and the nylon Fantail flexes enough to help the wrap compensation. Avoid thin wire frames like the Tuna Alley with a strong prescription; the lens edge ends up standing proud of the rim. The Reefton's adjustable nose pads also help us line up the optical centre.

Can I get Costa mirror coatings with my prescription?

Silver, blue, green or red mirror over the 580 tint. On polycarbonate we do it here; on glass it's a factory order, three to four weeks.

Does Costa's warranty cover accidental scratches?

No. Costa's no-fault program is for non-prescription sunglasses. Prescription lenses get a one-year warranty against coating defects and delamination, and the frame carries Costa's lifetime warranty against defects. Scratches are wear. A scratch-resistant package on the lenses is the practical answer.

580G, 580P or 400G?

580 lenses filter out yellow light around 580 nm, which sharpens contrast and separates colours on the water. 580G is glass: the most scratch-resistant and the clearest, but heavier. 580P is polycarbonate: lighter and tougher, and the only option for a strong prescription. 400G is Costa's plain glass without the 580 filter, still excellent, just less contrast.

Which Costa lens tint is best for my fishing environment?

Grey for offshore and full sun, true colour. Copper or amber for flats, rivers and inshore, where you need contrast through haze; fly fishers like it for spotting silhouettes. Green for freshwater and changing light. Blue mirror over grey for deep blue water. All of them come in prescription with polarization.

Is Costa better for fishing than other polarized brands?

For fishing specifically, Costa, Maui Jim and Bajio are the three that matter, and the 580 lens is tuned for reading water. If you fish every week it's worth the money. If it's a few weekends a year, an Oakley Prizm Deep Water or a polarized Ray-Ban does the job for less.
