Surf The Snow: Chris Christenson

Surf The Snow: Chris Christenson

Electric Visual has been dropping videos recently called "Surf The Snow" focusing on different prominent people in the board sports industry. This week, they spoke with Chris Christenson, owner of Christenson Surfboards - the man who has been shaping boards for over 20 years. It is hard to come across highly respected riders and professionals in the surf industry who put the care, detail and spirit into every board that is produced by their hands, but Chris is one of the few. He is also a "born-again" snowboarder, and found the surfing aspect with snow on the mountains in Mammoth Lakes, California. Chris rides the Gentemstick's Taro Tamai boards, which are inspired by surfing themselves, and spends his winter days riding through powder in California and shaping surfboards in his cabin at night. Chris is one of the classic's who believe that craftsmanship is making a comeback in the snowboarding world, and thrives on it.

When you're spending your days carving through snow or catching waves under the California sun, proper eye protection becomes just as essential as your board itself. Chris understands this better than most, as he transitions between two very different environments that both demand clarity and precision. Whether he's navigating mountain terrain in bright winter conditions or working in his cabin with detailed board shaping, the right eyewear makes all the difference. Quality sunglasses protect against harmful UV rays while maintaining the visual acuity needed to read terrain and spot the perfect line down a slope or across a wave face.

For athletes like Chris who split their time between multiple disciplines and environments, prescription sunglasses offer an ideal solution. They combine corrective lens technology with superior sun protection, eliminating the need to switch between regular glasses and sunglasses. With anti-glare coatings and polarized lenses, prescription eyewear can reduce eye strain during those long winter days and enhance contrast when conditions are less than ideal. Heavyglare Eyewear understands that board sports athletes need reliable, high-performance eyewear that keeps up with their lifestyle—because when you're dedicated to your craft, your gear should be too.
