What is 7eye and what makes it different from regular sunglasses?
7eye is a small American company that makes vented sunglasses. Air channels around the lens keep them from fogging, and most models take a removable foam eyecup that shuts out wind and dust. We sell more of them to motorcyclists and to people with dry eyes than to anyone else.
How does the 7eye Airshield / AirDam gasket system work?
A soft silicone-foam gasket sits between the frame and your face. It stops wind reaching the eye, so tears don't evaporate as fast, and it keeps dust and pollen out. AirDam is the standard version with a cup you can pull off. AirShield seals deeper and fits more like a goggle; that's the one to pick if dry eye is the reason you're here.
Can I get prescription lenses in 7eye frames?
Nearly all of them, single vision, bifocal or progressive. We cut them in Trivex or polycarbonate and use a digitally surfaced design so the wrap doesn't distort the edges. A couple of the fit-over models are non-prescription only; the product page says so.
What lens material do 7eye AirDam frames require?
Polycarbonate or Trivex. The eyecup mechanism is designed around light lenses, and high-index is dense enough to wear it out early. We default to Trivex unless you ask otherwise.
What reading strengths do 7eye Airshield Readers come in?
Off the shelf, +1.00 to +2.50, some models to +3.00, with the reading power built into the lower part of the lens. For anything else, order the frame with your own prescription; the same frames take a full bifocal or progressive.
Can I get progressive or bifocal prescriptions in 7eye Airshield Readers?
That's what they're for: distance up top, a reading zone below. We fit flat-top bifocals or progressives; for progressives a short-corridor design works best with the eyecup in place.
What is the prescription range for 7eye Active Lifestyle frames?
About -6.00 to +4.00 with up to -3.00 of cylinder; it's a moderate 6-base wrap, not an extreme one. Past -8.00 the lens gets thick and heavy at the edges, and we'd rather steer you to a flatter frame.
Are 7eye Active Lifestyle frames good for everyday wear or only sport?
Everyday, mostly. It's the same vented design in a lighter, lower-profile frame with more colours, and plenty of customers wear theirs for driving and desk work. They still don't fog on a bike.
